Workshops

High density development with porosity and rhythm.

One day we were asked by the District Administration from Jharkhand to conduct a capacity building workshop for their 13 young civil engineers, on alternate construction technologies.

As with so many other endeavors, this brought at PATH an opportunity to start a new educational activity. However, we were not of the belief that something is constructed for educational purpose and then torn down. At Nandanam Kindergarten which we were very closely associated with, we
knew that a lot of works could be done if there were funds for the same.
We put the need and the possibility together, and thus started various educational workshops which went on to develop different play areas for the children. These workshops included all the techniques that we at PATH use, such as

• Rammed earth foundations and walls (inspired by Auroville Earth Institute)
• Composite plinth beam using brick and concrete with minimal steel
• Rat trap bond of brick construction
• Arches in Bricks
• Jack arch roofing
• Precast elements

• Exposed concrete
• Ferro cement elements
• Shell structures
• Lime plaster
• Pointing
